smells

or perhaps that should be fragrance, smells always gives the wrong impression don't you think?

Anyway - it's funny how certain fragrances bring back memories or how you can find unexpected smells in the most strange places.

Let me explain - I was classifying a few books yesterday (yes, I am a librarian!) and I picked up this book that had a rather plastic cover (for your information it was Paediatric Radiology by Karl Johnson) and I must have brought it close enough to my face to get a whiff of this plastic.

I paused and began to wonder what it reminded me of, it didn't take long before I realised that it smelt of those rubber rings that you can buy at those little shops next to the beach - it was exactly that smell and really made me think of summer holidays with the family.

It really can be quite surprising when you get a familiar smell from something that shouldn't actually smell like that, in fact, when I used to do my evening job and had to catalogue the re-recorded programmes on DVD - the DVD boxes used to smell exactly like hot water bottles!!

P.S. this is another emailed post test and I hope it works this time.

I know what you mean. The smell of something can catch you unexpectedly and remind you of certain things. Coconut milk = suncream, manure = holidays on the farm we used to go to every year. LOL. Lavender water = mum's posh old aunt who used to fart all the time!! LOL. Hope you're well. hugs Clare x

Yes. Everytime I smell certain things, I think of certain people. Heavy perfume and cigarette smoke is my mother. . .

I still laugh about smelling a rotten peanut and think, "This smells exactly like old Mrs. Widison," who I lived down the street from as a small child.

our sense of smell is our strongest sense.

Yes, it's always cut grass with me. Takes me straight back to being about six and almost has me tucking my skirt into my knickers and skipping about!

I can't think of anything right now, but I know it's happened. My sisters and I have talked about this before, but it strikes me so funny that I can't come up with a single example.

By the way, I'm going to visit my ancestors homeland and will be visiting your side of the pond. :) We're only getting to Ireland and the Isle of Mann. My family came from IOM and this will be my first visit. I'll wave to you!

One thing for sure, I can't stand strong perfumes. Gives me a headache straight away!
